Individual Counselling

Who is counselling for?

When something is troubling us it can be helpful to talk with a professional counsellor in a safe and confidential environment.  People from all backgrounds and situations come to counselling, for a variety of issues, such as work issues, infertility, bereavement, anxiety, family relationships, traumatic events or simply not feeling yourself emotionally.   If any of this applies to you and you are looking to make sense of your thoughts and feelings, then you may find counselling beneficial in supporting you towards this.

How may a counsellor help?

As a person centred counsellor I work with you as an individual to find your own personal way forward, supporting you in exploring and better understanding your emotions, to bring about positive change in your life.   You’ll hear counsellors mention ‘a safe space’ - that’s really about the relationship that we build together, and how it differs from talking to a friend or family member who may have their own feelings and judgements around the issues that are concerning you.  By having a private place to talk in confidence, without anyones’ thoughts but your own to consider, you are better able to hear what is happening for you, how you really feel about things and explore the personal impacts of those emotions on your daily life.

How soon will I feel better?

For some people a few short weeks of sessions are sufficiently helpful in identifying their issues and finding a way forward that works for them.  Others find a longer-term, more open-ended approach better suits them in working through their more deep-seated issues.  I offer both short-term and open-ended counselling so we can discuss what you think would suit you best and review this throughout our time working together.

What will it cost?

Sessions are held weekly or fortnightly, at the same time and place and last 50 minutes each. My standard fee for individual counselling is £50 for each session.
